We go to Ilart Port to meet up with Redou, blech. Seriously, Elle even goes blech Redou! as we get closer to where he's standing. So precious.
...He's got these huge hilarious sunglasses on, they are seriously honking big. Ivar's with him too, and starts off with "Milla-sama..." at Mira before backpedaling and saying that he won't be fooled by a fake. Mira's sick of being looked down on like this by now, since she's as real as this "Maxwell-sama" is. Ivar is very quickly apologetic and asks for forgiveness, but Redou reminds us there's a job to do. Elle quietly mumbles about what's up with Redou's funky glasses, and Ivar kneels down next to her to whisper and explain that when Julius escaped, he got Redou good in the face. Elle giggles and says she wants to see, and Ivar joins in, thinking it is a little funny that it's pretty bad. Redou is less than impressed by the maturity here.
Anyways, we're to help him and Ivar fan out and search the area for Julius, take him down and drag him back if we do find him. The party splits into teams, and since Elize's hometown Ha Mill is within the search area, she goes with Ludger and Elle there. Elle invites Mira along too, since they're friends <3
Arriving in Ha Mill, we hear a woman in the distance calling out a thief. And then we see Musee floating towards us from that direction. Hmm.
Mira is surprised at her "Nee-san", and Musee is equally shocked before correcting after a glance that she's not her Milla. Mira's mood plumets again, but the woman comes running after Musee, calling her the thief. Not really... minding that she's a strangely colored floating lady with wings, so I'm guessing in Rieze Maxia at least, it's common enough to see Spirits flitting about. Musee is unperturbed, laughs and does the mid-air equivalent of laying on her stomach and kicking her raised feet back and forth while saying that she couldn't help it; she heard all about food from Milla while they were in the Spirit World so she wanted to try it too. Ludger pays up what Musee owes the woman, and we fade to black to fill Musee in on events since last time.
She's notably more serious afterwards, and asks if she can hop along with us. Choice of 'Refuse' or 'I don't mind, but why?', and going with the latter has Musee tilting her head and repeating the why, before floating close to Mira, who she smiles at, and telling Ludger she's concerned for this girl. Mira looks like she doesn't know what to make of that, and we get a Musee in our party yesssss more girls \o/
Sadly, I can't have an all girls party as badass as that would be, since Ludger can't ever be taken out of the active one a la RadiMyth, but next playthrough I can! I will!
Elize notes in a skit that Musee is much kinder and gentle now, compared to last game, and she asks if that's so. We get a choice of 'So why'd you change?' or 'I don't know how you were before, but I like you now'. Gotta grind the affection up, so I pick the latter, and Musee blushes and asks if Ludger is proposing to her. Everyone goes WHAT. It goes without saying she's been "learning" about humans from none other than Milla; she's full of literal mindedness and misconceptions.
Vel gives us a call, and says if we have the time while searching for Julius to check out an Alt World she gives the coordinates for, one that was on the list of worlds Julius knows of. And Musee is interested in the Alt Worlds as well, so we decide to do that.
We end up in the Kijil Waterfalls, just outside of Ha Mill, but in the alternate world. We start to explore this dungeon but don't get far before the group split up at a larger beach; Musee and Elize watching Elle splash Lulu with water, Ludger wandering off on his own, Mira eventually following after him. The sound of humming gets audible and stronger, revealing why Ludger went off in the first place and it leads him to Julius sitting on a high outcrop of rock.
Mira calls him out on making them chase around after him, and asks what's he waiting for just sitting there. Julius says that "he's come now" while glancing at Ludger.
'You really like that song, huh?' <= 'You were expecting me?'
Julius says it's natural for him to be fond of it, since it's the "song of proof" passed down within the Kresnik. Ludger is the same too, right; he would always calm right down as a child when Julius hummed it to him.
Okay it was not quite the same before, but ahhh the Tear and Van vibes now ;;
Julius suddenly becomes serious and hops down to face Ludger and Mira, who feel the hostility and tense up to fight, before demanding why Ludger keeps that child around him, almost certainly meaning Elle. Ludger narrows his eyes and hesitates for a moment.
'Because I need her' <= 'Because I promised her we'd go to Canaan together'
Julius narrows his eyes and is about to say something when a shriek comes, from Elle as a matter of fact.
The three of use dash back to where we left the girls, and see Musee ready to fight, and Elize hovering over Elle who is on the ground and wrapped in a black mist. There's some kind of skull squid monster in the nearby water and it's giving off Time Factor reactions, but it quickly vanishes, as Mira exclaims for us. She and Ludger rush over to Elle and see that Elize's healing is having no effect on the crippling pain the girl is in, while Julius merely stays behind and watches this with a dark expression. Musee somberly notes that it's... a life-sapping arte? that most monsters wouldn't be capable of, but the Time Factor is raising its abilities, and it can't be healed or stopped as long as the monster is alive.
Mira tells Elize to cool it with the healing, since it's not doing all that much and she's just tiring herself out, but Elize refuses since it's at least helping with some of the pain, and Mira diminishes a little at that. Julius looks over at Ludger who is gritting his teeth at Elle's state, and we get a timed choice: 'I'll lure it out!' or 'What can we do...'.
Taking the first has Ludger walk off to the side a little ways, Julius watching him like a hawk, and he pulls out one of his swords and slices his arm open with it. And there is blood, A LOT OF IT. Seriously so far this game already makes up for the lacks of blood in all the rest of the series. Here you go, everyone that complained about that scene with Richard in Graces.
Mira asks wth he's doing, but a sudden stillness comes over the party-- drawn by the fresh blood, the monster has come back, and everyone freezes, waiting to see where and when it will turn visible and attack. It ends up behind Ludger, who turns to face it, but everything goes slow-mo and Julius leaps in front, facing Ludger and not the monster, and shoves the Guidepost of Maxwell that he took from Clanspia with him into Ludger's hand.
Julius: Ludger! Protect the things that are precious to you... no matter what!
Back in real time, Julius uses one of his swords to block the monster's swing, but gets knocked away regardless. Ludger goes Corpse Shell mode, but now with additional armor covering his torso instead of just his arms and the boss battle starts. We get a tutorial on Corpse Shell lv 2, in which Ludger gets a Mystic Arte, Matter Destruct. Pretty fucking awesome, but the boss is easily enough without abusing Corpse Shell.
Ludger spears out the Time Factor quickly, and this one leaves a Guidepost behind for us too, and we get back to the original world. Julius is nowhere to be seen at all, but Elle is back to normal before Ludger can dwell on it, and both thank Elize for taking care of her. Musee asks Ludger if he's worried about his brother.
'Of course. He's my only family' 'He'll be all right, I'm sure of it' <=
Musee smiles and says it's wonderful to be able to believe in family like that, and as Ludger, Elize and Elle all start to walk away, Mira says she's surprised to hear that from her. Whether because her Musee was so distant, or because she's just a Spirit isn't clear. Musee's smile turns a little bittersweet and she explains that she was able to learn and understand that because someone ended her loneliness. Aka Milla.
Just another day destroying alternate worlds, and I got Alvin and Leia in tow for this mission. Wind up in alternate Dowall, and we try the good old "talk to NPCs to see what we can find" method to finding Time Factors. Alvin chuckles as we learn that the Alvin of this world is highly successful, and since that's a glaring difference already, we decide to dig deeper there. However neither alternate Jurgens, nor his fiancee Isla who was rendered comatose/bed-ridden in the last game yet is fine and even pregnant here and therefore a huge enough difference to be prime Time Factor material, give off any reactions. Alvin balks for a bit, wondering if it's really okay to destroy such happiness they can't have in the real world.
But he figures a clue, though: he and Jurgens aren't in the trade business here, but the mining business. So he figures to check out the deposit stores, cons Jurgens into giving him full access, but before we head over, Leia wonders about the Julius and Ludger of this world, so we tentatively head to the apartment to see, and meet alternate Julius, who asks Ludger what's he doing with Alfred, which shocks everyone. Same as in the real world, Alvin grew up in Elempios until he was six, but in this world he and Julius met and played together as kids. Alvin fudges his way through wonderfully, and Ludger notes how well they got along despite this. Alvin brushes it off, and we continue on our way.
Sure enough, the largest mineral deposit in the stores gives off a reaction. However, Jurgens was suspicious and followed us, and when he sees Ludger about to destroy the mineral, he leaps at Alvin and starts to fight with him, asking what he thinks he's doing; that's their future there. Alvin gets the upper hand and holds Jurgens back while telling Ludger to do it, so Ludger does so and breaks the deposit apart to reveal the Time Factor inside. Jurgens suddenly smokes Alvin in the face, stunning him, and right before the world crumbles he calls Alvin a liar and a traitor. Alvin can't manage any words to that, and it's clear that hurt loads more than the hit did.
He just can't get over his back-stabbing past >:
We're back in original Dowall, and Jurgens comes up and starts talking with Alvin, how he didn't see him there before. Alvin is still shaken, but recovers impressively, and starts shooting the shit with Jurgens like normal until the latter goes on his way. He's still rather down about it all, though, so everyone takes turns telling Alvin to cheer up, he's changed.
